2013 State Teachers of the Year (Invitation Only) (session #215)
2013 State Teachers of the Year will receive an overview of this year’s Forum activities and learn more about the roles they will play at the 2013 Forum. State Teachers of the Year will engage with high-level policymakers and ECS Commissioners on an issue that impacts them directly—teacher evaluation. Participants will exchange practitioner and policymaker perspectives on this critical, complex issue and learn the most effective ways to frame their concerns in ways that will resonate with those who hold different beliefs.

Getting Beyond the Rhetoric: Bringing Our Students to Real College-Readiness (session #240)
Adopting rigorous expectations such as the Common Core State Standards is but one of the steps policymakers must take to help a greater proportion of America’s students achieve college-readiness by high school graduation. This session will explore: What beyond mastering rigorous standards must students know and be able to do to be truly college-ready? What early, actionable information can we provide students, teachers, and parents? And how can we help students identified as not college-ready make meaningful progress toward college-readiness?

The Future of Postsecondary: How Do We Prepare? (session #245)
It is estimated that jobs requiring some postsecondary education will see greater growth through 2020 than jobs requiring a high school diploma or less – and the salary premium for a college degree continues to climb. Yet each year, thousands of capable high school graduates fail to enter college, and of those who do enter, far too few complete a degree. Learn from Jamie Merisotis of the Lumina Foundation what the future of postsecondary holds, and gain insights from incoming ECS Chair Governor Sandoval’s panel discussion with a teacher of the year and a first-generation college student how retooling current systems and structures can help more Americans earn a postsecondary degree or credential.
