Certification and Licensure
What are the initial school leader certification requirements? To qualify for an Entry Level Administrator License, a candidate must:
  • Hold a five-year educator license
  • Complete an approved master’s, specialist or doctoral degree in educational administration/leadership from a state-approved or regionally/nationally-accredited institution of higher education and receive institutional recommendation
  • Have three years of experience
  • Receive a passing score on the School Leaders Licensure Assessment
  • Obtain employment as an administrator.
What are the requirements for school leaders licensed out-of-state? Out-of-state applicants are held to the same requirements as in-state candidates. However, an applicant may be issued a non-renewable special license while completing necessary requirements. Miss. Code. Ann. § 37-3-2
Is there an alternative route to initial certification? The state board of education may establish a non-traditional route for licensing administrative personnel. State policy provides additional requirements. The Mississippi Alternate Path to Quality School Leadership Program is currently the approved program being offered for alternative administrator certification. Miss. Code. Ann. § 37-3-2
