Certification and Licensure
What are the initial school leader certification requirements? To qualify for a certification as School Principal, a candidate must:
  • Hold a master's degree
  • Complete a commission-approved program in education administration with an emphasis on curriculum, instruction and building-level leadership skills
  • Have at least two years of successful teaching experience in public/private schools accredited by the state board of education or by the proper accrediting authority in another state
  • Receive a passing score on the Oklahoma Principal Comprehensive Assessment
  • Meet any other requirements or professional education set by the state board of education.

What are the requirements for school leaders licensed out-of-state? Out-of-state applicants are held to the same requirements as in-state candidates. Okla. Stat. Ann. tit. 70, § 6-189
Is there an alternative route to initial certification? Candidates may be issued a standard certificate upon completion of an alternative administrator preparation program. Okla. Stat. Ann. tit. 70, § 6-189
